Steam cleaning is generally safe for tile grout, but there are important caveats depending on your grout type and condition.

Standard ceramic and porcelain tile with cement-based grout handles steam cleaning well when the grout is in good condition and properly sealed. The heat and pressure effectively lift dirt, mold, and mildew from grout lines without harsh chemicals — making it one of the better cleaning methods for heavily soiled grout. However, if your grout is cracked, crumbling, or unsealed, steam can drive moisture deep into the substrate beneath, which can cause real damage over time.

Epoxy grout is highly resistant to steam and moisture, so it's generally the most steam-friendly option. Unsanded or delicate grout in narrow joints can be more vulnerable to the pressure, so keep the steam wand moving rather than holding it in one spot.
