Yes, lighting is absolutely one of the biggest factors in how flooring colour appears — and this surprises a lot of homeowners who assume a sample is a sample.

Why lighting changes everything comes down to the colour temperature and intensity of the light source. Showroom lighting is typically bright, neutral, or slightly cool (often 4000–5000K LED), which makes colours appear crisp and lighter. Your home may have warm incandescent or soft LED bulbs (2700–3000K), which add a yellow or amber cast that makes the same floor look noticeably darker and warmer. Even natural light plays a role — a north-facing room gets cool, indirect daylight all day, while a south-facing room gets warm, direct sun that shifts throughout the day.

The direction your windows face matters more than most people realize.
